The open is outside with a clear view of the sky all around p much, so the open would be outside of a forest. An open is not a thing, an opening is (usually means something like "a way in/out" but is generally a hole or gap), and you could have an opening in the forest or canopy.

Fuck that. Write first. First drafts are shit for literally every author. Write what you want to to get things onto the page. Read as you write. Once you finish your draft you'll have more knowledge under your belt and your first edit will be much better. If you don't push yourself now you'll always find an excuse.
