Pynchon's the opposite of this wtf are you talking about?

>large body of work
>each setting vastly different from the other
>even adopts different literary voices from book to book i.e 18th century speak in Mason Dixon
>even adopts different literary voices within books i.e the shifts from bizarre stream of consciousness rambling to controlled narration in Gravity's Rainbow

Saying Pynchon's a one trick pony is like calling Shakespeare a one trick pony for writing only five act plays in iambic pentameter. Though there are GOAT-tier writers who are "one-trick ponies".

>putting one trick pony Pynchon in the same sentence as Shakespeare

You're a college sophomore, right?

I wouldn't totally say he's a one-trick pony but he's definitely closer than Pynchon. Every single one of his books is written in pretty much the same style, except with some like Blood Meridian he decides to throw in a beautiful passage that still could've been ripped straight from Faulkner. Then there's his obsession with Western/Appalachian settings, senseless violence and weird metaphysical/religious meditaions. Seriously all his shit is the same. Not that any of it's really bad.

The difference between Suttree and the Road is like the difference between Rococo and Brutalism.

Much more truthful. Except his fever-dream transcription, which is probably the best thing he ever wrote.

Hemingway.

Vonnegut

Richard Yates, but I don't mind.

His books are extremely similar anon, basically all of them are mysteries that may or may not be real mysteries and endless silly vignettes with strange breaks in to songs

You're conflating the books with one single element that they contain in various degrees, some hardly at all. Plot reader/10
>>
>>8319104
It goes even deeper than that.
>Oedipus complex
>NEET who couldn't hack it in school
>Nostalgic for bygone eras
>Thought he was a "gentlemen"

Shit-tier writing, but a guilty pleasure of mine. The literary equivalent of binging on Oreos.

This. His writing literally jumps from hunting crocodiles in the sewers with a shotgun to teaching religion to rats in the span of a paragraph.
>>
>>8319209
Seconded, every Vonnegut work that I read I like less than the previous one, because in spite of any changes to the subject matter he constantly retreads the same ideas and very similar anecdotes.
I do like Vonnegut though, he comes off as friendly and wanting to entertain and be understood
