Will ASOIAF have the same longevity and timelessness as Lotr when it finally finishes? Will there be movies made in its honor which revive its popularity and inspire new generations of fans?
Definitely not, game of thrones doesn't really have that timeless appeal, it got famous because it was 'subversive to fantasy tropes' and got hip, but there's really not much that can make it endure as a classic.
Especially since george rr martin hasn't written a book in forever and has no clue how to end it lol
It's another saga we won't hear the end of. It won't rise to the levels of LOTR, but it's at least like a Harry Potter (yes yes grumble grumble). I do think people will stop being such fucking twits about HOW GOOD IT IS within a few years of its ending.

>has no clue how to end it
Has he actually said this? Don't most authors at least have a rough outline of how things will end?

he originally planned for it to be 3 books. Now it's 7. Just think about that...
He's gone so deep into so many plotlines uniting them all is going to take one hell of an ending, but george rr martin never thinks big picture and would prefer to write hundred of pages of Dario fucking Daenarys in meereen for the millionth page
>when it finally finishes

He said in an interview that he knows the ending. He just has no idea how to get there.
