You keep thinking about it after you have read it.

It can be.

/lit/ will tell you, approach it democratically but opinions from dubs and trips counts double.

If /lit/ says the author's a hack, you don't like it.

I don't know if this is a shitpost but I actually feel this way sometimes.
Usually after a month or two I realize.

A sense of taste is developed the more you read because you will naturally read books that you will either like or dislike. And even further along, you will begin to articulate what exactly it is that you do or don't like about them.
Of course this can only be done if you actually think about what you read. So put your thinking cap on, Opie!
You'll know when you start masturbating to specific scenes of that book. I still get a stiffy when I think of Raskolnikov giving Alyona the ol' axe-a-roonie.

It's part of the literary canon.
