I have Iliad and Odyssey. What order should I read them in? Anything else I should have other than just reading them like plans, guides, lectures etc?

One at a time, lad. One at a time.
You don't need anything else, just read the Iliad first and then the Odyssey.
Read both
then read essays from The Cambridge Companion to Homer
OP here, I am six books into the Iliad and it is sublime. I read a lot of good poetry but I am really enjoying this. It is now a life goal to read Homer in the original language, one assumes it would be akin to a spiritual experience.

Which translation is that?

This admirable gentleman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Pope
The book cost me 99 pence (UK), which is ridiculously cheap, and Pope's translation is beautiful. Read the preface he wrote to the Iliad, which is in the book I have, I was stunned at it; he was a very intelligent man.

It really is incredible, I hope you enjoy the rest of the book at least as much.
