Public is literally the only place someone should read Infinite Jest. How the hell will anyone else know i'm reading such a long, complex piece of literature?

Maybe you don't want to hear about this, but let's just say you're not the first person to soil their pants with poop or pee while reading Wallace, and if you stick with him and keep reading, this little incident isn't going to be your last. Among Wallace devotees, this is such a common occurrence that we consider it a sort of rite of passage. Some guys in the newsgroups even post pictures. Most of it's tame, but I have seen some unholy carnage.

I use a Paperwhite in public so I wouldn't know this confliction.
It's the only place anyone would read it. Is this book a meme in real life too?
>>8297860
why?
most people don't live by dumb /lit/ memes.

Yeah, don't even think about getting any other edition but the single cloud covered one either
I don't think most people "in public" even know what this book is.

First reasonable post.

Depends on the locale. In a college town you won't get through a page with all the granola yuppies stopping to chat about the thin Hamlet parallel and inflated technique.
I was reading Blood Meridian while waiting for a class, this trampy looking man walked past, but paused when he saw my book cover, I looked up from reading, he just look at me then spat, then went on.

Can't tell if this is a joke or not but if so, good on you sir!

Or ever

I only go near college towns when I'm drunk and partying nowadays.
