Just fucking read the book dear god.
If you need approval before even starting a novel, you'll never be a good reader anyway. Get your fingers out of your ass and make an opinion for yourself

Just read it and you'll know. It's not like it takes much effort to read a damn book. Quit relying on other people's advice to decide what's appropriate for you to read and what's not.
What do you have to lose by actually reading it? Nothing, that's what. If you don't like it, you don't even have to finish it.
Surely the reason why you're considering reading it anyway is because you know it's part of the existentialism canon. What else do you need to know, really?
There's a great non-fiction read on existentialism which just came out this year: At The Existentialist Cafe by Sarah Bakewell
She goes through the lives of some of the more "prominent" existentialists (notably Sartre, de Beauvoir, Heidegger) and while doing so shows how the thoughts around these people developed. It's a great intro.

It's awesome; and Sartre's only essential work. if you like the metaphysics presented, it's essentially a dumbed down version of Heidegger. Enjoy.
