I've read the ones I own (pic related). I love Calvino. He's brilliant, hilarious, kind, and poetic. Start with Palomar, and then do Invisible Cities, Winter's Night, and Castle.

Starting with Palomar is a pain in the ass mate. I'd recommend Cosmicomics for the first time reader.
I do love Palomar though don't get me wrong.

I read if on a winters night a traveller a few weeks ago and it struck a serious chord in me. Absolutely my favorite book I've ever read.

How do you guys feel about cosmocomics? I read the first story about the moon and moon milk and whatnot and it's not grabbing me. Are the other stories different?

I read Invisible Cities, which I thought was quite good. I've got a huge backlog of other reading to tend to at the moment. I'm seeing lots of people mention Winter's Night. Should that be where I go next? Any recommendations for a Calvino novice?

absolutely read if on a winter's night, you'll probably blow right through it. the chapters are pretty short and there are so many different writing styles that it stays fresh

Winter's Night is great, but Castle of Crossed Destinies is awesome if you like tarot, and Baron is fine.

I liked the more abstract stories in Cosmicomics. I guess they're rather different in style from the first one.

Also: silly, nothing interesting, no memorable moments, predictable, poorly executed, etc. Length surely responsible for a lot of these things but the short story wouldn't be very good or interesting either.
