I'm back with an updated list.
Can we create the ultimate /lit/ list?
>>
>Orwell and Twain good-tier
>Kafka and Borges mid-tier

It's like you don't read at all
>>
>>8222574
No matter where i put kafka, there will always be someone who bothers about his position, either if i put him high or low on the list.
>>
>>8222720

This is why we'll never make an "ultimate" /lit/ list.

The most objective we can achieve was the vote for our favourite books and authors a while back, but even then people are mad and want to redo it.
>>
>>8222720
That may be so, but Orwell shouldn't be nowhere near that list. objectively speaking.
>>
>>8222793
Orwell gets shit on on this board because everyone reads either Animal Farm or 1984 in high school and is under the impression that he's only a high school level writer. But both Animal Farm and 1984 are done a disservice when high schoolers read them, and Orwell's essay are among the best modern essays, if not the best modern essays, in the English language.
>>
>>8222525
>Orwell above Pound, Woolf, and Thomas "The Magic Mountain in my Pants" Mann
My jimmies are beyond rustled.
>>
>>8222525
Who's the bearded chap with the laurels in high tier?
>>
>>8222811
gonna check it out thanks m8
>>
This is actually the first time I've ever seen Baudelaire here.

Coming Up for Air is his best work by far and no one ever reads it.
>>
whos the guy at the top
>>
>>8222839
Keep the Aspidistra Flying is pretty cool too.
>>
>>8222841
thomas pynchon
>>
>>8222839
he's not gonna clear that puddle
>>
>>8222811
I've only read those that you listed, and in high school. Woe! Which essays should I start with? Any particular collection?
>>
>>8222841

Miguel de Cervantes. Are you from the United States or just uneducated?

>>8222855

Fuck off autist.
>>
>>8222848
I enjoyed aspidistra too. it was definitely a cozy novel
>>
>>8222865
>miguel de cervantes as 1st

hes being a contrarian. shakespeare deserves top spot obs.
>>
>>8222865
>it means you're uneducated if you don't know what an author looks like
>>
>>8222863
"Modern English, especially written English, is full of bad habits which spread by imitation and which can be avoided if one is willing to take the necessary trouble. If one gets rid of these habits one can think more clearly, and to think clearly is a necessary first step towards political regeneration: so that the fight against bad English is not frivolous and is not the exclusive concern of professional writers."
-Politics and the English Language
>>
>>8222856
That's the point. ; - )
>>
>>8222865
your a dorable
>>
Also recommend Mann Kafka Woolf, and Borges in good tier (switch with Twain, Orwell, Scott. Brecht and maybe Dickens). Get rid of the irrelevant fucks like Soseki, Rand, and whoever the fuck that is between Brecht and Zola.

There's also absolutely no reason to have Hesse so high.
>>
>>8222882

He's the biggest writer in Spanish language. I bet a Japanese middle-schooler knows who he is.
>>
Also where the fuck is Faulkner?

You should just kill yourself for not having him on there.
>>
>>8223011
Stop talking faggot
It doesn't matter if he knew what he looked like or not.
>>
>>8222865
I've been reading Cervantes lit criticism for 6 years now, and I didn't remember his portrait.

It's a very generic unmemorable portrait (Quixote himself is the visual symbol that people remember), and you're a tight assed wanker.
>>
>>8222525
Can we please put names on this shit? It's nonsensical to expect people to know what every author looks like. An over-complex chart is a poor chart.
>>
>Ayn Rand

>mid-tier

Lol, you're being far too generous there op
>>
>Kafka below Orwell
Seriously?
>>
yeah cool can we actually talk about books now?
>>
>>8223176
Also, why no Camus?
>>
Why do faggots try to solicit board opinions when they make tier lists on any board? The only thing these lists are good for is stirring up shit, and you can do that just as well with an image you make all by yourself, probably better.
>>
>Hitler
>Shit-tier

oy vey
>>
>Rand
>No Eliot
>No Steinbeck
>No Clancy

>>

This is really a bad chart, I'm sorry. It also isn't even comprehensive at all. Poor choices.

>>8222574
This, for example. Orwell above Kafka, Borges, etc. is just so wrong, holy fuck. He shouldn't even be in Good-tier.

Rankings are odd and you're missing lots of significant figures like Faulkner, Crane, Yeats, Eliot, Lawrence, and most importantly memesters Wallace and Pynchon.

Lope de Vega was better than Cervantes and Shakespeare, even Cervantes himself agreed on that.

Most people don't know him though.
>>
>>8225332
Calderon was better than Lope de Vega though
>>
Fucking Woolf in mid tier you've gotta be shitting me
>>
>>8225327
Seriously, switch Shakespeare and Cervantes.
>>
>>8222525

fuck yourself you cunt

Pointless thread

Well done
>>
>>8222525
I was gonna tell you to be more subtle next time but then I read the thread.
>>
Is it worth reading Cervantes in english?
>>
>>8222720
its almost like people have differing opinions. but that isnt how a list like this works. you need to have at least some self awareness of who is widely considered great. Pynchon and Kafka should be god tier. I don't even see gaddis or franzen or tao lin or Phillip Roth. this is pretty suspect. it seems you do know you're classics though.
>>
>>8225545
lol yes

1) it's a novel
2) his prose isn't that good in spanish
>>
>>8225470
I wish I could explain to you how stupid you really are but you're obviously too stupid to accept it, so keep on being a retard.

Pound is good tier and kafka and Orwell are out of it.
>>
>>8222525

Cervantes on top spot is offensive. You must be a Spaniard: they have delusions of grandeur about their own country and culture.

As for the chart, all I know is that the number 1 spot is divided between Shakespeare and Tolstoy.

As for the rest, I don’t know. But Shakespeare and Tolstoy are better than anyone else (and between the two Shakespeare has probably the advantage).
>>
>>8225917
move rand down a tier desu
>>
>>8222889
jesus christ this is autistic
>>
>Kafka and Wilde on mid

Kill yourself.

Dostoevskij should be on the same level as Tolstoj.
Leopardi also deserves an higher spot.
>>
>>8225976
>Dostoevskij should be on the same level as Tolstoj.

I disagree. As much as I love Dostoyevsky he cannot be compared to Tolstoy.
>>
BTW just noticed Aischylos in mid-tier
How retarded can you be not to put it in Ancient Creator tier he literally is the greatest tragic poet of all times
>>
>>8225986
>he literally is the greatest tragic poet of all times

Nope, Shakespeare is.

But Aeschylus is great, I agree.

Anon, you always have to check the latest version.
Tbh mid is some sort of containing tier untill I better focus on authors singularly and move them then.
