Fuck this book ;_;

Can you post in spoiler specifically why fuck this book? I remember it was a good novel, nothing spectacular, but a pretty story written well enough, but I'm particularly biased because the person who made me read it was my first girlfriend who was killed a couple of years after this, and about a year after we broke up.
Oddly enough, I can't remember much of the book now.

Oh well sorry to hear anon.
I particularly liked it because I have an interest in Spain around the time of the civil war and this is a really well-written coming of age story with dozens of sub-plots and interesting characters with the Franco regime as the backdrop. As a kissless NEET the romantic parts got to me hard. Maybe I'm exaggerating cause I have not read that many novels

Spanish anon here, i haven't read this book yet maybe i'll give it a try.
How much does it go into detail about the social and political situation of the time?

I'm glad to hear that.
none though. It's merely the time period it takes place

It doesn't.
It's all there, floating in the "mood", but if you're looking for a depiction of francoist spain, look elsewhere.

Since this is a Spanish thread, how do you feel about Hugh Thomas's The Spanish Civil War? Picked it up a while ago and it seems very interesting and thorough account.
