The forced references get old really quickly. The author seems intent on drilling into your brain that he grew up as a nerd in the 80's because every single page has some reference to a movie, song, arcade game, or some other facet of 80's nerd culture. Not only that but the target audience seems to be middle/high-school so the writing style is simple and the plot is pretty thin.
