I've read GR as the first and only Pynchon novel so far and would say that it was a love-hate relationship. Some parts I enjoyed immensely; some parts made me want to throw the book away. Overall it was a struggle but worthwhile in retrospect.

I've been curious about reading another Pynchon novel and am wondering how M&D compares to the abovementioned. I know it's long as fuck, but is it also notoriously difficult to get your head around? Or is it more of a pleasant read?

Much easier than GR, but arguably just as complex. Takes a few dozen pages to get used to the faux-archaic prose style but it's pretty smooth sailing after that. (Especially in contrast to GR, which only gets harder as it goes on.)
