Fucking read it, man!
It's just a book, it's not bad (although unbearable if you take it as a burden). There are more difficult books to read if you have to pick; Palahniuk or Rowkling, Martin or Pratchett, make your choice, stick to it and drop it if you can't.
To misunderstand To Kill a MockingBird is not a great tragedy and you could do worse.
Read it and use a dictionary if needed.

I read it for the first time the other day. I'm 25 now. At some point in jr. high, I was supposed to read it and didn't retain much other than the trial verdict.

It's pleasant. Very comfy. If you're not a native English speaker, just know it has a lot of southern phrases and dialect being used by children who drop letters in words.
