>inb4 emotional connection

im talking objectively what makes a book 10/10 for you?
>>
plain, honest prose
huge moment of anagnorisis by main character
compelling plot
strong, believable character and setting development
I usually like a bit of action as well
>>
>>8113614
Feeling of perfection, every word being somehow essential or worth going over again
>>
>>8113618
what are some good examples of anagnorises in books?
>>
>>8113624
The obvious example is Othello when he realizes...everything, Iago's duplicity, Desdemona's fidelity, etc.

For me, Kim's spiritual awakening in Kim, Maria's realization that Jordan will choose violence and death over her in For Whom the Bell Toll's, Siddartha's entire last chapter and realization after his some rejects him that the circle of father and son have continued in him, stuff like that.

>after his some
after his son

>invocation of the muses
>focus on someone's wrath, preferably achilles's
>woe upon the hellenes
>frequent divine intervention, to the point of frustration
>a catalogue of ships
Anyone got any recs?

I meant what points, that may be objectively appreciated, make a book a 10/10
>>
>>8113618
I'm guessing you really like Hemingway novels.
>>
>>8113679
I like For Whom the Bell Tolls, but can pass on the rest. Honesty in prose doesnt necessarily mean simplicity in prose like Steinbeck or King. I like Hardy, Cather, Kipling, McCarthy, Ishiguro, Llosa, stuff like that.

An example of someone who for sake of prose but not substance I just cant get into is Vollman. Too many games.
>>
>Great, distinctive prose
>Deep introspection or imagery
>melancholy

Any recs?
