Reminder that Shylock did nothing wrong.

Reminder that you've done nothing right.

reminder to brush your teeth regularly

If this play focused more on Shylock it would be great, but it spends so much fucking time with Bassanio trying to get marry some princess by picking the right box or whatever shit, it's boring and predictable.
>>
>tried to kill a man via legal manoeuvre
ok
>>
>>8110381
Antonio made the deal knowing full well the consequences.

Also Antonio treated Shylock like shit, he had it coming.
>>

Good goys. Shakespeare was an evil nazi for portraying the chosen people of Israel in such a unrealistic and anti-Semitic way.
>>
>>8110379
>complaining that a Shakespeare play is predictable
>he reads Shakespeare for the plot

wew lad
>>
>>8110332
>did nothing wrong
What did he mean by this?
>>
>>8110332
He converted to Christianity.

Also, Bloom is right, the play does not function unless Shylock is the villain.
>>
Yes, Shylock points out antonio's hypocrisy on loaning and borrowing at the beginning. Actually the efferfluous villain is bassano, aemelia 'shakespeare' willoughby bassanio herself. But it's amazing how shylock has been misinterpreted into a cliche, ey.
>>
the real villain are the portia and the duke, shylock is a retard who thought that such a scheme could pass

he is unrealistic too because he should have known how the law is bended by those who have powers and bended how they need it, being a merchant he surely had to know it
>>
>>8111592
How is 'the'? Portia a villain whatsoever? How is antonio a villain? Also, within those old storycontexts, characterlogic supersedes 'worldview' on shylock. 'bended'?.
>>

Antonio was under a great deal of pressure and Shylock knew it. He took advantage of his desperate situation in order to attempt to murder him. Antonio was an aggressive antisemite, but certainly didn't do anything severe enough to merit his own death. Even if you could say that Antonio knew what he was getting into a freely chose to continue, and that Shylock had strong and justified reasons to hate Antonio, it's absurd to claim that he did ***nothing*** wrong.

You are absolutely right. God, i'm an idiot. Those modern movies certainly don't help. Well, no biggie. Very classical as such, uhmmnn. Thanks, doed.
>>
>>8111626
He didn't do anything wrong. But he's an archetypal old villain. His 'wrong' lies, as you rightly said, in his intent to vengeance. But technically, he didn't 'rob' antonio in any way, which has been the longlaboured mistake on it.
>>

they cheated shylock of his property and his right to cut that human heart using complete casuistry; their reasoning that he shouldn't shed blood and should cut the very exact weight of flesh are ridiculous and contradict the commercial common sense, try to behave irl that way refusing to buy meat in a shop if it's not cut the right weight to the milligrams, and their reference to the law that forbid jews to hurt gentiles is especially shameful - like it's ok to make a contract that you can get your heart cut out when there is a law that a jew which tries to harm a gentile loses his property, you like are never to get your heart cut out wile having all the advantages of the contract, lol, silly jew
>>
>>8111669
What?
>>
>>8111669
You are technically wrong. Since you are rude towards me, i won't tell you why.
