I really struggle to follow whats going on unless its Keats. Every poem from Homer to Goethe I get completely lost or feel like i'm not experiencing their full potential.
What should I do lit? Is there some interpretative technique I should use? Do I "get gud"? Is it just about experiencing the prose and ideas the author is weaving and I should just relax? Should I just read more poems and get used to how they are written?

Probably because you aren't because you are reading a translation.

To be honest I try to read translated poetry and it just feels intolerable, like I'm not even getting the real meat. So I actively prefer English poets.

that just happens. your imagination is simply focused on something else in your life so there isnt any available for these kind of things. sorry. it is only solvable if you do an entire conversion of your worldview.
