Is /lit/ concerning animals and nature deemed "childish"?

Is there any author of respectable prose?

Pic related is a personal fav of mine and Aesop's and the work of Jack London are enjoyable but I've yet to see them hailed as some other /lit/

Any recs?

If you're alright with nonfiction, this has some beautiful passages about nature.
>>
not really

idyllic / pastoral poetry isn't childish, for example

I'm fine with nonfiction. Just read pic related and whilst it isnt particularly flowery, it was informative.

Reason I ask is i enjoy writing about fictitious animals as i do people. I just wonder if people hear its a book about animals and immediately dismiss it as Disney-esque.

No. Where does this attitude even come from? I remember seeing a Reddit AMA from the editorial staff of the Paris Review where they said they never wanted to read another story about hunting again, as if those pompous toffs could appreciate the potential for drama there.

Have you not heard of Pilgrim at Tinker creek?

Or are you looking just for stories with talking animals?

How is it childish?

If you want to see "childish" examples, just go to the YA section. I bet you none of those books contain animals.

This sounds great thanks.

>talking animals
Well, maybe. Or even just personified animals perhaps.
