i don't have any money
>>
I spend all my money on Sodiepops and cigarettes at the gas station
>>
Yes. Nice thread by the way
>>
No need for a bookmark.
If you can't remember exactly where you stopped, then reread it from the beginning and give it your attention this time.

Bookmarks are for the plebest of plebes. The superior way to read is naturally: either read where you open to and literally get lost in the text, unafraid to take the wrong turn or get off on some strange exit, journeying into the strangest and most interesting worlds of literature as they would be to anyone new to them, or else to read in one sitting and absorb the story as if it were your life.
>>
>>8064195
are you the same fag that took that swell photo of the god delusion with rainbow dash sitting on top of it?

This tbqh. If you can't remember the page number or the general part of the book you were reading, then you weren't paying close enough attention. I rarely use bookmarks.

>>
>>8064357

>>
Bookmarks are for book fetishists. People for whom it's far more important to be seen as a reader than it is to actually read.

People who couldn't analyze a text a minute after finishing it.
>>
>>8066294
>projecting

lmao
>>
>>8066308
he's right though.

I personally even find that having bookmarks around me only distracts me from actually reading the damn work.
While I'm reading, the bookmark is sitting around somewhere near me, and it's like it's literally staring at me and waiting for me to hurry up and god damn finish with my annoying pretending that I'm doing something useful already so that it can be tucked away again in the warmth and cozyness of the book.
>>
I don't really use bookmarks since I often just remember the page but when I do it's usually old receipts or cards or something like that.

You're reading a book wrong if you're paying attention and memorizing each individual word or phrase. You merely read it roughly as a whole, and whatever essence you extracted from it, that's all you have. This also means, NEVER read the same book twice, it is a most unholy sacrilege.

In my poorer days I would use a $20 bill (USD) as a bookmark, so that it meant I always had enough money to go out and buy a new book whenever I finished the one I was reading.

Nowadays, though, I have a real income, so I don't need to resort to pseudo-tricks like that.

When I was young, mommy used to encourage me to read by handing me a crisp $5 every time I put in my daily 30 Minutes(tm). The timer would ring, and I'd run over to her with the book wide open, smiling cheek to cheek, and she'd slide it in for me. The bill would have to stay there as my bookmark until I opened it again, but if I volunteered to another 30 Minutes session, I could pocket it and then repeat the process as many times as I wanted. I was really upset when the economy hit the shitter and finances became tight, because she said she couldn't afford to do it anymore. Reminiscing, I was livid, in fact. "I'm going to college next year and YOU CAN'T EVEN support your child's intellectual growth? You FUCKING BITCH!" She didn't cry but I could tell that I had broken her, and I deeply regretted it. I was too proud to apologize at the time, and halfway through my sophomore year, I learned that she was hit by a drunk driver. I will never fully repay my debt to her, but as the next closest thing, I volunteer at a local children's shelter, offering $1's (hey I'm a poor student still) for the same purpose. My greatest protege is a child named Elijah, very bright and I can see how curious and exploitative his mind is. Sometimes I just give him the money outright, but if he wants me to hold his position in the book with just his finger, he has to hold something of mine, haha, but that's another story.
