Reading while walking

I tried once
It's fucking impossible to concetrate on the book
But when we are on a train or a car, i simply pick my book and start reading with no much effort
So yeah, just hipsters who likes Jhon Green do that

as a teacher it is a great way to avoid students while also keeping up appearances if your paths cross

sometimes I take a walk around my neighborhood and read. its fine because there are no people around, I don't find it as distracting

Whenever i've tried to do this i usually I've begun panicking at the possibility of falling into a hole, or maybe smacking my head against a street lamp, or getting robbed, or crossing the streets as cars go by, or bumping with a muscular stranger on steroids.

I do it because I like reading and don't have much else to do while I walk

I don't know why people say it's hard, I don't find it hard. I also don't understand how some people can't read in cars. I might be lucky in both regards.

Reading in a car isn't hard for me, but it makes me sick.
It is as much a mystery to you as it is to me how some people can do it but I can't.

I could go like 10 minutes and then look out the window for 10 minutes and then read for 10 more minute etc. and I would be fine. But that is too much /work/.

I like doing one thing at a time so I find a comfy spot then read, only if its something really important do I read while walking

I have an autistic dislike of stopping in the middle of a text. If I reach my bus stop before finishing the chapter I will finish it walking, but I do try to avoid it.

I had this class once and the professor was quite young. We parked in the same parking garage and after every class we left at the same time and he would carefully manage to be slower than me so we wouldn't arrive at our cars at the same time. We pretty much pretended to not notice each other. He was usually with this woman I imagine was his gf, one day she gave a guest lecture.

There was one time where by some fluke we both drove past each other and made eye contact and we waved awkwardly and that was the high point of our relationship.

I just can't imagine myself in a situation in which this would naturally occur. I barely read in public at all, and when I do I try not to let anyone see me. Usually I just put it away when I have to walk somewhere.

Have any anons actually done this unintentionally? Also, why do you read in public at all?

If I try to read in a car it causes this awful nausea that lasts a long time and really makes me fear I'm going to puke. I'd love to read in cars and have tried it many times but it's a doomed attempt every time, causing regret.

However sometimes I can do it if it's dark outside and I can't see the landscape whizzing by from any corner of the eye. But yes, consider yourself lucky, I envy you for that

I like to wander around in wide circles in my backyard while reading. I can't do it on public sidewalks because there's too many people buzzing about, which makes me very self-conscious, plus there's lots of cars and dogs and other dangerous distractions about. But walking while reading is very pleasurable and gets my thoughts moving in tandem with the rhythm of the author's consciousness. I've read all of Gogol and most of Faulkner's major works while walking. Once I stayed at my uncle's farm and walked for miles down a deserted dirt road in late September while reading Absalom, Absalom! It's one of the greatest literary experiences of my life, I think.

I can only walk, or rather pace around an area, when reading something light. This morning, I walked around my kitchen table while reading GoT and snatching something to eat from the cupboards everytime I picked up bad writing. I feel real serious literature can be enjoyed only if approaching a sleep-like level of calm. Maybe walking is a way to hypnothizing yourself?

Anyway, I once saw a girl walking in a middle of a city while reading a hardcover. I thought it was stupid and that she was doing it for attention, but she was cute and she smiled to me, so I had to forgive her. Autism is hard.

if im at a particularly good part of a book, i read while i walk. I used to do it in the halls between classes, but then we got a new town of kids in and the halls are too crowded, id step on peoples heels.

It's the same as reading in public. It only seems showy because you're too busy wishing you got the recognition you're giving them. The reality is they just want to get some reading done and if you know your neighborhood like the back of your hand you might as well do it while walking.

ah, yes, I remember this tactic of test days. I would read, or rather eye-gang-rape a selected text, sprint into the class, jump-sit into a chair and then just vomit all my knowledge onto a sheet of paper.
The act of reading was like getting as much water in the mouth as possible without swallowing, and then holding it for as long as possible. Getting into the classroom, I would chant under my breath the few dates and names and ideas and definitions I had inhaled and they sometimes merged together.
When the time had come to write them down it was the real test. My memory played tricks on me, and even with a clear recollection it was difficult to make an interesting argument out of some bare factoids desperately chosen at random. I shoehorned a lot.
Now I look back on my years as a bad student with almost fond memories, because they're not part of the present. It's funny how some uncomfortable moments seem quaint in retrospect.
