I remember going to a great uncle's house in Norway; the property was a few hundred years old as was full of huge built-in bookcases, all of which were stuffed. There was a regular library, plus hundreds more books in the study, living room, bedrooms... I would agree if you were to go back in time, say to pre-1960s, the conservatives would have been very similar to the NDP. Now they are more libertarian/neocons--indistinguishable from american Republicans for the most part. This is how a lot of conservative MPs ended up jumping ship to the NDP. Conservatism used to be an entirely different animal, and there is no party to represent that old "red-tory" ideology anymore. Liberals on are republican-lite, kind of like Hillary Clinton, but somehow manage to appear super progressive like Bernie Sanders.

Yeah, I don't know how long I'll keep those Dark Tower books. I was into them quite a bit when I was in high school. Still think 11/22/63 is a good yarn. I'm pretty content with my fiction selection, not happy about the messy disorganization but I don't know what else to do. I don't have room for another shelf right now unfortunately.

Great book for a kid, considering all the illustrations and easily digestible information. Also, all the nudes make it very attention-grabbing for an adolescent.

Everyone always recommends Hamilton's Mythology, and I've flipped through it, but I think this one is ultimately better when you take into account the illustrations, the scope, and all the information you can take in at a glance. Of course, it's also cumbersome and hard to find. But it is nice. Nice to find another who enjoys this book!

I've read most of the books on my shelf at least twice.

My MIL works at some kind of advertising factory place and gets me these nice copy paper boxes when we move. They fit about 30-50 books and probably weigh less than 20lbs each when filled. Pic in case anyone wants to try to find them, but it's basically like an oversized heavy-duty shoe box.

I've brought my books through three moves so far. Not as bad as people make it out to be, even despite living on a second floor apartment. It's just a day's worth of good exercise.

yea i think it's great. very atmospheric and a more subtle/restrained look into the theme of politics on art compared to bolano's later stuff. it's definitely an early work and there are flaws, but it's formidable for a "first" novel. it's much more character/traditional "psychological"ly driven than bolano's later stuff.

yea. its super common in china for publishers to just publish complete sets/boxsets of an author's works altogether, whereas it's much rarer here, and books tend to be released in individual volumes that may or may not be congruous design-wise.
