Taipei is a modernist novel through and through. If you liked it, consider reading other modernists such as:

Marcel Proust
Ernest Hemingway
Knut Hamsun
Kate Chopin

Chopin I would say is severely underrated. The Awakening is kind of like Taipei except the main character actually commits suicide as opposed to other modernists in which the main character just considers about it.
