The Steinbeck is The Pearl and The Red Pony (have read the former before but didn't own it, never read the latter). Third one down is a volume entitled Middle English Literature by George Kane.

The lot cost a total of U.S.$7.50 for those of you care.

Something Happened is phenomenal. Far superior to Catch-22 (which I did also enjoy). I would suggest you might want to read his Picture This before Something Happened. I would also suggest you never read Closing Time (sequel to Catch-22 published in the early/mid 90s iirc, utter garbage and most likely nothing more than an attempt to cash in on the fame of Catch-22 towards the end of his life.

I bought a book that I shall not name here last monday. I often read near my computer so that I can make notes or search for stuff related to the book, but this time I was reading in a shopping mall while I waited for some acquaintances to arrive.

I underlined some sentences that I found interesting so that I could search or write it down once I got home. Now I'm feeling guilty of having ruined the book. A friend asked me to lend the book once I'm done reading but I think I'll just make an excuse like "I lost it while commuting" or something like that.

I read Berkeley's Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous back in college and remember liking it as much as anything I read for my philosophy classes. Never delved deeper into him, though, so now I am.

I only vaguely know the most basic details about what the I Ching is, thought this looked like a good read for a quick introduction to the subject before I explore more.

Not OP but I'm about half way through Quixote at the moment and it's a charming read, it's as if humour hasn't changed since the early 17th century. Its long and at times goes on wild tangents, tedious at times, but it's great. Mind you, I didn't read the same translation.

That topmost Jap book is about these huge ass crows in Japan. They are literally everywhere in the cities and the author spent most of his life studying these curious flying dinosaurs.

Another two are Chink books. The red one is Zhuang Zi which you might already hear of, and the other one is about the art of composition in Chinese prose and how not to write Chinese in English grammar (this is a huge problem with modern Chinese, everyone writes Chinese like they're writing English and most of them, especially the elites studied oversea, never seem to realize it.)
>>
>>7828460
yeah I'm excited to read Storm. Hard to find his works in English. I'm in the process of learning German, but not yet polished enough to read literature. I found the best used bookstore I've ever seen a while ago. The owners had so many books that they literally only stocked and accepted ones that they like, and they have patrician taste.

I couldn't spend much money at the time so I only bought a copy of 100 Years of Solitude that I had been meaning to get, but if I'm ever back in the area I could easily grab all of the /lit/-core and other stuff on my to-read list.

I never go to bookstores anymore. Either I get it from the uni library or if they don't have it order it online. But they almost always do have it, it's one of the largest libraries in Canada. Sometimes I get this weird oppressed feeling when I browse the catalog, all these books just waiting on the shelves, and not just any pile of irrelevant crap either like at a thrift store but every classic, contemporary literature, rare translations and out of print gems, just reams of them. It makes me kind of anxious. It would be kind of like giving a solider a gun with a magazine that held a million bullets, he would hold it and fight tears as he thought, "how am I ever going to find enough people to shoot?"

ONE YEAR IN 1945

M&M came the day before the other two so I managed to get two bookmarks aswell, christ knows why but now I feel compelled to colour them in and collect them all but I've also got the buy books from Waterstones to get my free £10 it's such a conflict desu.

They took fucking ages to come though, and both the pingus had been opened enough to leave a crease on the back corner (???? who opens them? is it to jam the bookmark in?) so idk if I'll order from there again (I'm autistically picky about condition of books)
>>7840146
I too didn't know this cover existed, it doesn't match the style of the rest of the modern classics or lolita covers in general. Luckily the spine matches or shit would've hit the fan.

How'd I do? All from my local library bookstore, for about $3.

Never read Barnes, Anyone have opinions?
>>
>>7840836
Nicely done. Wins on Celine and Calvino (although I've only read Cosmicomics, not this one). Pafko is excellent, but unfortunately I'd say Point Omega is probably unfinished at best. Not a Didion fan and don't know Barnes, either.

I have this real tiny copy of moby dick with some bible-ass pages; I was a little scared I would tear them.

Are Salniger's stories any good?

Started the Savage Detectives on Sunday. It's taking me a lot longer than usual, but I am enjoying the hell out of it. The beginning seems a bit like a young adult novel, but it picks up fast. I hope to pick up 2666 soon.
>>
>>7834859
Literally this, I sat on my knees in front of a bookshelf at school trying to think of how I'll ever read just one section of the place. Luckily it was really early and the library is huge so nobody saw me.
>>
>>7841074
fuck that, as a devoted DeLillo reader i'll argue Point Omega is the best thing he's written since Underworld, not unfinished but lean. nothing extraneous. i reread it often.
>>
I got Perfume story of a murderer for 20 cents today.
>>
im a scrub and i want to read a shitload of books to change that

No picture because lazy
But:
The Innocent Man - John Grisham
The Testament - John Grisham
The Hunt for Red October - Tom Clancy
Rendezvous with Rama - Arthur C Clark
Disclosure - Micael Chrichton
Mort - Terry Pratchett
Spartan's Gold - Clive Cussler
The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - Steig Larrson
>>
>>7842086
If you're really new:
Try Stephen King, John Grisham,
If you like military stuff Tom Clancy, or if it's too boring try Clive Cussler for worldwide adventure

Then move on to other things, look around to see what you like
James Ellroy is pretty cool, I've heard good things about Jim Thompson

Got both of them for about 7€, rate. Giant is literally like new and Remains is in good condition.

I usually read on my Kindle but I really miss the feeling of books, so I'm gonna try and snatch cheap deals to build a small but nice collection.

Wow, love it, it's like Infinite Jest is on top of Bloom's book, fucking it hard, pushing its face into the pillow and saying "No talent, huh? What's this then?!" and causing Bloom's book to cry and cough out little shrieks of ecstasy with each deep thrust that brings it closer and closer to a mindsplitting orgasm.

It's an abstract feel. I've read that John Milton may have been one of the last people to read every published book. There are a lot of library books that I don't feel too bad about missing, like the bound issues of a law journal from the 1980s, but I'll never live long enough to read all the books I WANT to read. Vita brevis, ars longa.

Most thrift stores around where I'm from are pretty alright when it comes to books (5 books per dollar ftw!) and name-brand clothes. One of my favorite thrift shops is actually across the street from a Maserati dealership, so I tend to go there on their sale days.
>>
Anyone have tips for buying new texts (unused) as cheap as possible? Any particular places to go? I usually buy paperback and online. Most large bookstores are too pricy.
>>
>>7844519
there are a couple book sellers on ebay that sell "remainder" books (which are new books but have that black pen across the bottom to signify "it didn't sell" or whatever) but they (probably for legal reasons) list them as "used - acceptable" even tho they are new as fuck..."auruga distributions services" or some shit is one and like there's another one in pennsylvania that's good too but i forgot their name
>>
>>7844537
This^
"used - acceptable" is pretty much as good as new. Amazon prime can help with shipping if you have it (or can find a friend/family member with it)

I just reached about 300 out of 500 pages. Halleck just met up with with the son of now dead Tuek.

This book is trash and I am not going to finish. My god is it boring as shit. This book is just "hm, he's a man" thought man who was just before mocking the boy, for 500 fucking pages

nigger book 1 sets up a million years and 5 other books. you can't judge that series off the 1st book. it's just an intro. not much happens in the first book. judge the series at least after the second one.
