It's the only " text book" I kept from six years in Psychology.

Definitely the definitive social psych book, to the point that everyone in the field is terrified to even try and compete. You will not find another good book that covers the broad range of social psychology issues.

Whether that is right or not is questionable, but if you want to get into social psych, you will find that every other relevant text is building off of Aronson, not competing with him. Generations of social psychologists have been educated based on his writing.

it's just about the basic mechanics of how people think and interact. things like what people do and don't notice given certain situations.

if you think you can make use of that have fun. definitely not like super essential to life. you probably won't understand or be able to apply anything without a lot more material.

The difficult thing about psychology is that it seems so simple at first, and it takes years of repetition and layered understanding for the important stuff to really be revealed.

I wouldn't put a ton of academic weight and time and energy into understanding modern psychology in a quest to be "redpilled".

I would read this book though. It will give you an idea. Just not an understanding of the world on its own. Seriously, if you're amazed by the book, go get a good psych degree. That's all I can say.
