I thought about this passage for a little bit, wondering what I would trade a blind man for his sight, but then, coming back to it, I made myself think I was interpreting it wrong, and I wanted to know what somebody else thought, on reading this section.
So, what did you think of the section, reading up to that point?

We have to be careful about the concept of tolerance. Tolerance is still adhering to the politics of identity.
For example, I'll tolerate you being in the room with me even though I despise you.
It is a very condescending perspective, and one that should only be used in settings where peace cannot be resolved.
I think, in looking past identity, we will no longer care (or have to tolerate) what others do. Why? Because there will be no others at that point. Destroying identity means destroying difference.
At that point, tolerance is not needed, and we are all blind (unable to see differences).

Its an excerpt from The Trouble With Being Born, by E.M. Cioran. From what i've read Cioran is a total cynic, and the book is organized in seemingly random passages, relating from asceticism to conciousness. The quote in OP is one of these passages.
