>read it in high school so it sucks
ebin thread. upboated.

>>7783191

BMW, 1984, and Fahrenheit 451 are God Tier distopian novels. Anyone who says otherwise is a retard.
>>7783244
>distopian
>god tier
no, they are passable, in the descending order you listed
lurk or get out
>>7783244
Shows you haven't read any better books. Order's right though.
>>7783243
Bah, it's the fantasy version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in my opinion
>>7783263
The start's passable, but after the hooks it's pretty bad.
>>7783288
>alot
>>7783244
BOTNS is the only god-tier dystopian novel, the only god-tier fantasy novel, one of the only god-tier works of magical realism, and probably the only god-tier sf novel.
/thread
>>7783301
What is that
>>7783301
>the only god-tier works of magical realism, and probably the only god-tier sf novel
fuck off you slimey croat.
>>7783464
name a better SF novel and a better full-length magical realism novel than Book of the New Sun
>>7783469
I kind of want to read it.
>>7783191
>Bad books
Congratulations for your ability to articulate your arguments.
>>7783445
I hated it at first but the more I read it the more I appreciate it. Overrated though.
>>7783191
It's terribly written with a shitty plot but the world he invents redeems the novel, I think.
>>7783504
A good portion of PKD's work > Book of the New Sun
That is, of course, assuming that SF stands for Sci-Fi and not Science Fantasy.
>>7784503
Kek
Actually low key god tier
>>7783248
1984 is better than bnw.
oh and pic related is one of the worst books ive ever read in my life. unlike most bad books not only do i think it is bad I think it has a toxic message

...there is only one bad book?
Catch 20-fucking-2. What a shit book, honestly.
>>7783191
That's why they sell it with the essay "return to the brave new world".
So you too can "get it".
>>7784719
1984 is a better novel than Brand New World, which isn't that hard. But I always reach for BNW over 1984 - it has turned out to be the more prophetic.

What don't you like about it anon?
An interesting theme in a humorous and easily read package.
btw, finished it 2 weeks ago.
>>7783244
Found the /r/books migrant.
Want to throw some Vonnegut in there to complete the quadrumvirate of pseud-worshipped hacks?
>>7787785
Who hurt you, anon?
>>7788253
it had a few good lines, but yeah... mostly it sucked
>>7783243
I think even Pratchett fans admit that was easily his worst work.
>>7787785
s-stop it I like vonnegut
>>7788253
what fucking book is that even?
>>7788541
Nausea.
>>7785217
>>7789984
that transcends the good/ungood dichotomy, you fool.
>>7789990
So we'll never truly understand it?
>>7789984
Is this a reference to Greek plays?
I know there are plays called the birds and the frogs by Aristophanes
>>7790014
>we'll
>not understanding that which transcends the meaning/unmeaning dichotomy
fucking pleb.
>>7790044
>doesn't innately comprehend that which transcends the meaning/unmeaning dichotomy
my poor friend, i pity you. it is self-evident.
>>7790057
I just didn't get it. Too much implication and not enough clearly spelled out. I mean the author implies that the meaning is meaningless because we've become so detached from meaning. It's brilliant, don't get me wrong, it's just so weird the way he/she makes us try to figure it out on our own.
But if that makes me a pleb because I can't understand something on my own, then it does definitely and I need more training.
How do I learn how to comprehend this shit anyhow? Who should I read? Where should I start?
>>7790044
I just realised, the bottom picture could be a wasp, which is also a play by Aristophanes. I thought it was a mosquito
I don't know what book the pic is referring to though
>>7790088
>doesn't even comprehend innate understanding
it's over for you, my friend. maybe you should consider something simple, like Ulysses?
>>7783191
OP Please explain to me why you thought Brave New World was bad
>>7790092
>on someone's body
>shape
>red (blood) sack
>nose
It's clearly a mosquito.
>I don't know what book the pic is referring to though
"The Birds, The Frogs, & The Mosquitoes" is a banned book by an unknown author that technically doesn't exist cause it hasn't been officially printed in over 30 years.
Ulysses
>>7787168
A Thousand Splendid Suns is pretty fucking bad, especially with how Rasheed was written, Khaled has no idea how abusive relationships work, or how relations between men and women work
>>7783203
Actually, the only reason I liked this book was because I read it in high school, and it made me feel edgy and superior.
Now it's just meh. It's alright, I guess. It's kind of bitchy about hedonism, though. If you don't want to be a hedonist, don't be. Plenty of people out there aren't like that.
>>7788253
I´m sorry you didn´t understand it.
>>7787785
vonnegut's not bad, maybe u shud stop h8ing hs books just bc every1 in hs called u weird
>>7784854

>>7791226
Oh I did, but In the end I wish I'd have read Sartre's essays instead
It's ten pages of content are drowning in hundreds pages of filler. The actual literary part of the novel is not enjoyable

Island was a great book. Very easy to misunderstand though and there is a lot of stuff that flies over peoples heads if they aren't familiar with it already.
>>7787291

>>7783244
Futurological Congress is better.
what made 1984 so bad?
the message it sent? the prose?
on part 2 rn
>>7791784
different guy, I bought is on amazon for $0.01 and it was missing a few pages.
So ya, it was pretty easy to misunderstand

Gatsby
Couldn't even get past the first chapter with no-shits given about the narrator.
>>7783445
Americans hate Catcher in the Rye because it was ruined for them by their diseased school system.
>>7783243
Nigger everybody thinks Pratchett's early stuff was pretty shit.
Contributing with pic related. Holy shit is it bad.
Literally the worst thing I've ever read. I'm usually a lefty cunt who'll side with the PC brigade on anything but on this I'm convinced all the critical acclaim come from either the fact that she's a young black woman or that the critic wants to fuck her(in most cases a combination of the two).
>>7784550
Dick is inferior as a writer. He didn't craft characters, or had a notable prose. He was good at paranoia and concepts.

prose is banal as fuck, just wait til you get to the pages of history big bro's army or whatever it is and you'll truly see what a piece of shit the book is.
i had so many high hopes as well because of how often it's referenced in pop culture
Fahrenheit 451
