This man is the greatest man to translate homer and virgil.

I found Fitzgerald to be the easier version
Pope is the best for Homer though.

Nice meme

It's not a meme. It's the best read in English. The criticism of it not being Homer (not faithful) is fair, but most of the other translations aren't exactly accurate either and not Homer, so throwing that at Pope but not Fitzgerald for example seems a bit silly. Poetry is by it's nature untranslatable in the first place.
You're reading a translation and not Homer regardless, so you might as well read something that reads well in English which is going to be more faithful in the sense of producing the feeling of the original rather than the literal metre and language, which again Fitzgerald himself doesn't even do.
Even with more 'literal' translations, you're still not reading Homer, you're just reading a dry rendition in another language which doesn't nearly have the same effect, and is only really useful as a crutch for reading the original, rather than as a sole reading.
