Pretty strange. Seems more like extended poetry than anything else, but thats because I dont really know wtf is going on. Naked Lunch is superior

I read it over my winter break and loved it. the subtle nietzsche influence (mostly second-hand from his friend irving layton) and weird plot development is super interesting. F. is one of my favourite characters of all time (some people speculate that F is actually Friedrich Nietzsche, which could explain a lot of things, and complicate a lot more things).
i would give it a thorough read--it's a wonderfully written book. one of my TAs from last year just finished writing her dissertation on it (and other canadian novels) and is obsessed with leonard cohen, so i talked to her after i read it and she gave me lots of info about the actual book and cohen himself. pretty cool guy.
I've read this and it hated it. His other book (Favourite Game) was much better. It's pure trendy bullshit. Obfuscation disguised as artistic genius. It's the sort of thing an undergraduate writes after smoking hash and reading some book he found in a used book store about Canadian mythology or some shit. It's garbage.
