Looking for books critical of socialism outside of Orwell
You know Orwell was a socialist, right?

That always confused me. When I read Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm I was under the impression that Orwell was indeed anti-socialist. Obviously the facts state otherwise though.
Being a socialist and critiquing socialism aren't mutually exclusive

Orwell was a socialist.
1984 and Animal Farm depict corrupt regimes calling themselves socialist.
If Americans had the capacity to understand this, they wouldn't use socialist as a slur.

He recognized the inherent problems of socialism. A planned economy strung together by the state, as through socialist programs, is incompatible with liberty and free choice. Such leads to totalitarianism, such leads to Stalinsim.
