I watch a lot of movies /lit/. I'm looking for good books about cinema. I've read neither Bergman nor Ebert books and I mention them because I know they're popular.
Give me some recommendations /lit/. I'm looking for technical, biographical and historical books.

Cinema was a meme author, and had no discernible talent. He was shitposting, and is literally genre tier fiction. clearly a juvenile author.
>>7693370
Tarkovsky's "Sculpting in Time"
"Film as Subversive Art"
>>7693390
Thanks anon. I love Tarkovsky and I'm definitely reading it.
>>7693467
Tarkovsky is easily the most based director out there I'd want him to be my uncle.
>>7693666
>Tarkovsky
Looks like Tom Selleck to me.

Adorno
Heretical Empiricism by Pier Paolo Pasolini
Cinema 1 and 2 by Gilles Deleuze; if you've seen enough of the references
Notes on the Cinematographer by Robert Bresson; out of print now and too small and scatter-brained to drop $100 on but if you can find it for $5
Gunning, Bordwell, Bazin, etc. for specific directors and films.

What is Cinema by Bazin
Cinematography Theory and Practice by Blain Brown
David Bordwell writes shitloads of books that are okay
Gilles Deleuze Cinema I and II
Jonathan Rosenbaum's Movie Wars and Moving Places

I got some links for you familia
If you google 'film studies for free' you can find a blog that compiles free academic books about film
Piratebay torrent:
/torrent/6522030/
There are 4 volumes of that torrent, tons of books.
>>7693740
This should be great. I'm honestly not sure how to even get into film studies on the academic level so at least I'll have some materials to consume in the meantime.

>David Bordwell writes shitloads of books that are okay
he co-wrote my class' text with Kristin Thompson: Film Art An Introduction. this was the fifth edition back a million years ago. it's good. my teacher picked it by crowdsourcing all his colleagues and people he went to school with/made films with. this was for a film making class in the art dept, not theory thru the english dept, if it matters.
I also found pic related invaluable and extremely concise,

>going to books to learn about the cinema
That's like going to film school and not to films.
>>7694218
>going to film school

I've watched an incredibly huge amount of films. What's the problem with enjoying reading and wanting to read books that have movies as the main theme?
Also your logic is complete garbage but you should know that already.
>and not to films
I know you're on this thread so I will just say that I love you
>>7694270
Drop a hint.
>>7694269
So what do you suggest someone interesting in this area of study do to start off?
I'm back. Any progress in terms of our film studies breakthroughs?
I really enjoy just reading screenplays. Just finished some by Rohmer.
