Who all do I absolutely have to read before Descartes? I've read The Art and Thought of Heraclitus, Plato, Aristotle, and Marcus Aurelius. I'm not gonna read all 3,000 pages of Summa Theologica. Anything else I need? Sextus Empiricus? Augustine? The reason I'm asking is because the sticky has an assload of shit before modern philosophy and that's what I'm in this for. How did you guys do it? Thanks in advance

If you're interested in Modern philosophy you can literally just start with Descartes for fucks sake.

Ight thanks lol
>>7666127
>Plato, Aristotle
Which texts from these authors have you read?

Is that meant to look like a guy getting a blowjob from afar?
You know there's a ~400 page concise Summa arranged by Aquinas himself, right?
>>7666127
Literally nothing. That was the point.
Lad you don't need all this shit for Descartes.
>>7666369
I don't understand how you got through all that and not know what descartes is addressing.
>>7666381
It's not that I don't know I just don't want to be unprepared tackling modern philosophy. I tried reading CPR a few years ago and promptly got BTFO so I'm cautious. I guess what I'm really asking is what do I need to tackle the modern pantheon of philosophers so I don't get my shit pushed in
Also my b for not posting this in the other beginning philosophy thread my B

Lad most philosophy courses start with Descartes. He's not tough.
>>7666399
Ight thanks for the help /lit/
Thread can die now

Yes well starting with CPR is dumb.
He's the semi final boss usually, it's no surprise you got BTFO.
Desecartes hume leibintz before Kant

Thx m8
Descartes is pretty shitty tbqh senpai.
Also: you need to be quite versatile in medieval philosophy not only "muh Aquinas" that seems to be an attitude shared by surprisingly many people. For example, in st. Anselm to see how Descartes butchered the ontological argument.

>how did you guys do it
You're ready. Just post your opinion or some shit you've heard about Descartes.
>>7666127
Just Plato. Or nothing.
It isn't really THAT necessary.
