what are some authors that strike you as pseudoscholar-like?

What makes you think Salinger is a pseudoscholar? I've only read Catcher, and quite recently, but I thought it was very good.
Rand fits right in though.

Salinger wasn't trying to be a scholar, when you read some of his works, especially with Seymour Glass, it seems like he was trying to work out personal shit in his work which is what makes it resonate, he wasn't trying to be a household, as can be seen by how when he did become famous he tried to stay away from limelight.
