Looks about right to me? Also they're meant to be reenacting it anyway.
>>
>>7588893
Dude they just cut everything out at the end and pretend like it is just comic relief or unecessary
>>
>>7588891
thank you, potential for top thread.

What age is Alcibiades in that bust? I think when he got older, he grew out of his intense infatuation with Socrates. There is one passage in Plato that describes Alcibiades as just beginning to grow a beard. The Greeks were degenerates but they would never carry on with that at that age.
>>
>>7588928
He's 36-how the fuck would I know!!?

Yeah, I'm fairly sure you're right, although isn't Alcibiades already moved on from his relationship with Socrates by Symposium? That's why he recounts the stories from the past.
>>
>>7588917
Oh well in that case the entire thing is just worthless & they should have bothered at all...
>>
A clip of Thomas Mann (speaking in german):

There are ways to figure it out though. Sure he's moved on but I get the impression that he hasn't gotten completely past it. I think they know his age at this time because this is right before he flees from Athens after being accused of desecrating some religious statues. You have to use Thucydides and stuff to find out for sure.

>>7588947
Not worthless but it is like having a book and the last chapter is ripped out. I think all the queer stuff at the end is really important and substantive. I mean the rendition points to it when the guy playing Socrates says it shows a balanced view of love as high and grotesque but that is just scratching the surface. I know it is common to ignore that part so I just went to the end to see how they handled it. I mean there is so much symbolism in that part. Alcibiades comes as Bacchus and the mystery cult theme continues.

Suprised no one put the Chomsky Foucalt debate or anything by Zizek.
>>
>>7588972
Wait Alcibiades was born around 450, exiled in 415 so he was at the symposium in 416, making him about 34. The beard is sufficient then, still think they should have had the original ending though.

>>7588943
>He's 36-h
Good guess
>>

From Wiki: "It is considered that the work was written no earlier than 385 BCE, and the party to which it makes reference has been fixed in 416 BCE, the year in which the host Agathon had the dramatic triumph mentioned in the text. The disastrous expedition to Syracuse, of which Alcibiades was a commander, took place the next year, after which Alcibiades deserted to Sparta, Athens' archenemy."

Alcibiades was born 450bc, so he should be 34. Dude should have a beard by then I reckon.

Also post some (not shit) stuff anons!!

>I think all the queer stuff at the end is really important and substantive.
This was on primetime BBC in the 60s, so no chance of that making air.
