What kind of books does your girlfriend read /lit/?

Is she more patrician or less patrician than you?

She has her Ph.D. In comparative literature but for some reason she has recently started reading YA. Hopefully she stops before it's too late
>>
Honestly /lit/, do you think your autistic obsession with literature has contributed to your inability to find a cute, loving patrician girlfriend?
>>
>>7571789
I think it's more my weakened constitution. (manlet)
>>
>>7571789
it's a vicious circle for me
>>
>>7571730
sounds like you don't make her feel protected enough, and she has to build up character to face the world.

My gf is reading the magic mountain, and I haven't read a book in 2 years so I guess she's more patrician than me
>>
my gf has read some classics but she reads mostly fantasy pleb shit and Amy Tan crap. She likes short stories like from the Grimm Brothers. And I got her into Surrealism with Cortazar, so that's good.
>>
>>7571789
if i werent autistically into literature i would have probably never have had any girlfriend ever. im a stupid moron but i like words and people think that makes me smart and some girls like that.
>>
>>7571822
>some girls

A sincere interest in literature usually results in a quiet and often neutral or gloomy disposition. These things are not attractive in males, and you WILL be seen as an autistic creep even if you have a lot to talk about and so on. Literature is a gateway drug to aspergers syndrome.
>>
>>7571834
the dude got a girlfriend out of it tho
projecting?
>>
Whenever I meet a girl I find attractive I perform a simple test to see whether or not she's patrician (and therefore worth dating). I ask her to name five five books written by Tao Lin without in fifteen seconds. If she fails, I tut and move on. If she passes (nobody has) I propose marriage.
>>
Girl here.

It really is a shame how introverted a lot of you guys are. It's pretty rare to find a guy who knows as much about literature as the average /lit/ user. It's a shame to think many of you will die alone, without ever having experienced mutual loving affection.
>>
>>7571814

>I haven't read a book in 2 years

Why are you here, seriously?
>>
My gf is much more erudite and patrician than me but she does occasionally read pleb-shit.
>>
>>7571856
Idk how the fuck I managed to get a gf, she even laughs about my autist tendencies sometimes. Good thing she's pretty autistic herself

>>7571863
I love literature, why are you asking?
>>
>>7571856

I tried it once, we loved each other dearly.

Solitude is better, sex is overrated, the intimacy is not worth the drama.

To any of the kissless virgin anons out there who may be reading along, do you have any idea of how much time you need to invest doing stupid shit, listening to stupid shit, dealing with stupid shit?

The phase where you're IN love (which is what has inspired so much art) is great beyond measure, no doubt, but it's fleeting and frail. It never lasts very long.

Then comes the real™ love, the one you have to go about stoically and "work" at every day. It's just not worth it to most people, which is exactly what you can read in modern divorce rates.
>>
>>7571874

Go read a book man, what the fuck.

What was the last book you read?
>>
My ex didn't read that much, her favorite novel/novella was The Pearl though. She liked other Steinbeck stuff as well, and cried when she read Flowers for Algernon.

We read The Hunger Games together, it was pretty cute.
>>
>>7571856
How do you even find guys who know anything about literature
>>
>>7571596

Yea nah m8. You're not a real adult until you want a stable partnership, and are capable of maintaining it in a way that makes it a positive part of your life.
>>
>>7571885
something shameful like Cryptonomicon I think. Last decent books I have read are the leopard and the malavoglias.

how the fuck is literature a gateway to aspergers? It may be a sort of 'introverted' activity but that doesn't mean it makes you a less social person. i actually have a friend with aspergers who reads a shit ton of poetry and i didn't even notice her aspergers until i'd known her for a year and her mum brought it up with me. in her case i think literature was the antidote.

>>
>>7571994

i think aspergers is like 30 times more common in males (idk i might have just made that statistic up), but it does exist in females. i was pretty surprised on finding out too, she's the only girl i know who has been diagnosed with it.
>>
>>7571667
what
>>
>>7571905

You can want and be capable of all those things, and it doesn't alter what >>7571881 wrote. Those release of all those love chemicals in your brain last for about a year after you're with someone, and then after that it takes more of a conscious effort to (1) think about what your partner wants/needs, and work to give it to him/her, (2) learn how to spend most/all of your free time with that person in a way that doesn't drive you crazy, and (3) recognize your own needs/wants, and ensure they are fulfilled.

You can absolutely do that in the context of a long-term relationship, but it's not automatic, in the way that you just want to spend all your time with your *new* romantic partner and do things to make him/her interested and happy. Hence anon's 'stoic work' line. There is nothing wrong, and there is much right, with stoic work, but it is still work

she likes carver, beattie, delillo. late century american mfa-core. i could do worst considering I'm an americanist by training. i got her the library of america carver volume as part of her christmas gift and she was thrilled. i would say she is more patrician if only because her taste is not self-consciously cultivated—that is to say that she seeks out books she likes with reference to books she has liked, rather than seeking out books based on an idea of what a patrician reads, something i struggle with.

I'm 19 years old.

I am handsome, smart, athletic and virile.

I have a novel that is in it's final editing stage, and a creative writing professor at my college has read the first draft and thinks it's saleable.

I have a girlfriend who is confident, articulate, playful and spontaneous.

I have a small group of interesting friends from different social and academic backgrounds, and I also have many other acquaintances who see me as a reliable source of humour and good company.

Both my parents are alive and in good health.

I have no regrets.

I have already experienced three existential crises, the latter of which was described as having the depth and profundity of a man twice my age.

I am a passionate lover, a sharp thinker, and a trader of witty repartee.

I am not self-pitying, meek or needlessly humble.

I will live a good life at your expense.

Always gets me, simply marvellous craftsmanship. I've used it once or twice IRL with this really pretentious and fake hipster-chick I know, goes straight over her head and makes her start talking about her own struggles with "depression" after Vice magazine stole her ideas AGAIN.

Fuck you, anon. I actively avoid reading. I'd burn all books and make forgetting them mandatory if I could.

dude. my new years resolution was not to say the "c" word anymore (not the australian one. the louis CK one).

But you are seriously pushing my limit. That word hasn't passed my lips in 12 days. I'm close to the breaking point. Just... pull back a bit, ok?

My cute patrician gf. She's kind of cold, in a warm way. She's published. Makes me anxious about my lack of literary output.

save lines like these for your literary output, they are too good to waste here.

>A sincere interest in literature usually results in a quiet and often neutral or gloomy disposition.
Except this is meme bullshit. This is the agenda that the /r9k/ posters are trying to push here, namely that you can choose either to be "intelligent" or "popular"(guess which one most /r9k/ spergers identify as). These edgelords also tend to assume that being a gloomy misfit somehow also means that they've stumbled upon some sort of "wisdom", or that they've realised the "futility" of everything.

Unless you're actually a YA fan who bought the whole "read books to discover new worlds" platitude(as opposed to the much sounder "read books to discover new interpretations of the Real world"), reading won't mean shutting yourself off from rest of society. On the contrary, it will require for you to interact with others(writers, theoreticians, academics, public figures, et cetera).

TL;DR: Despite the attempts from /r9k/ posters to appropriate "reading books" in order make themselves look like special, introverted snowflakes, reading literature(even the "high brow" literature) is mainly a "normie" activity. Get rek'd, nerds.
>>
My gf reads fantasy shit. I got her to read 1984 and she told me she didn't like it because it was boring. Other than that, I love her.

What a delusional normie

Permanvirgin here.
Feels pretty good. Only regret is not having children, will have to go the greedy way paying an Eastern Yurop girl for childbearing.

>To any of the kissless virgin anons out there who may be reading along, do you have any idea of how much time you need to invest doing stupid shit, listening to stupid shit, dealing with stupid shit?

Just about none?

Sorry, man, but you've never loved, you've never been loved.

You had a nice crush, you had a nice romance, you got your drama, but you've never actually loved someone.

I honestly don't even remember a singular time I had to "invest in doing stupid shit". Could it be that your girlfriend was just a cunt?
>>
>>7571905

exactly this. people on here are tweens and permavirgins.

(not that there's anything wrong with being a virgin, it's the robot mentality that's the problem)

My last gf was an illiterate. She must have read around 3 books in her entire life
I gave her "El coronel no tiene quien le escriba", 100 pages. She could not finish it.

>however i personally wouldn't date a woman that can't initiate a relationship both because i can't and because a woman who can't is a cliche not worth spending time with

this is very true. if a girl is invested enough in societal roles to refrain from coming onto someone they really like just because the man is expected to she's probably not worth it anyway. atleast in my opinion.
>>
>>7573220

>date girl who seems like a tormented plath-esque poetic genius with unique insights into a ton of things, can practically see the book waiting to come out of her
>has zero interest in writing or even developing her amazing raw insights, just watches reality TV all day and talks about getting old with two kids and a dog

don't see anything wrong with that whatsoever

>yet another automaton who is just really, really, really good at snipping together papers out of other people's ideas

that's me. not really the most original kind of person, I'm just good at stealing other peoples thoughts, twisting them around and make it appear as if they were my own.

your dating life is probably more exciting than that of 95% of this board, no need for grief.

Well you aren't listening to her.
Why do you think virgin is an insult or condemnation?
Because she is aware that women are really only useful for sex.
She is saying once you fuck us it becomes possible to overlook our childish nature.

Seriously /lit/, I have a serious fear that I will never find someone that will love me and I'll die alone. It's starting to interfere with my work. I'm almost 25 and a virgin. I don't wanna slip into depression.

4 years ago a girl said I was a 3. Since them I've been going to them gym and dressing better. I actually sense that people are treating me better, also i'm 185. But I still have a fugly face and seriously anti-social. Also, I'm in the middle of my PhD so no money for whores.

Sorry for that, but I wanted to went somewhere.

Try supplements, namely nootropics. 5-HTP for getting out of that blues, avoid coffee and wanking for a while (not some long-termin no-fap bullshit, more like a week or two) in order to get your dopamine sorted out. Fugly face can be fixed by weight-loss (i.e. less fat volume = sharper, more pronounced features), a beard, or a haircut.

Sure. It's been hopeless for a long time, from the very beginning. You will never represent, anon, a young girl's erotic dream. You have to resign yourself to the inevitable; such things are not for you. It's already too late, in any case. The sexual failure you've known since your adolescence, anon, the frustration that has followed you since the age of thirteen, will leave their indelible mark. Even supposing that you might have women in the future - which in all frankness I doubt - this will not be enough; nothing will ever be enough. You will always be an orphan to those adolescent loves you never knew. In you the wound is already deep; it will get deeper and deeper. An atrocious, unremitting bitterness will end up gripping your heart. For you there will be neither redemption nor deliverance. That's how it is.
