Is Robinson Crusoé by Daniel Defoe good? I was having ae look at my old books and I found an adaptation of it that my school made me read for a test (6th grade I guess?) and I really liked it. Should I read it?

Guliver Travels is better

It's pretty literary m8

Also check out Hayy ibn Yaqzan

Yeah, it's pretty good. I've actually read it ("read" it, if you wish) three times without reaching the end. As soon as he gets off the island, I lose interest, every time. Another good Defoe: Colonel Jack, perhaps better than RC.

thanks, will check it out

It's pretty funny how casually he enslaves Friday but otherwise pretty boring. Just some Protestant nerd whittling wood and crying for 400 odd pages.

If anything, he's unrealistically matter-of-fact and unemotional about everything if I recall
>>

He's pretty distraught for a while, until he finds God.
>>

He still bursts into treats routinely even after he surrenders to God's will or whatever.

Hm, maybe the emotions are more realistic than I remember. One thing was that he seemed to me ridiculously productive in terms of making his compound and the things in it. Not much else to do, I suppose.

Yeah, he's generally stoic and resourceful, but there are times, especially in the beginning, when he mourns his situation.
