Yeah, basically it tries to humanize her yet at the same time makes her more fantastical than any believable or moderately intelligent normal human. It would have been a lot better if he just got to actually be close with her and get to see the world the way she did without the retarded mystery and disappearance. It also would have helped if her problems weren't solely her fault and actually had to do with people forcing her socially into a role she didn't belong to just because of her appearance/charm
