This book is legitimately good, don't let the elitists on /lit/ change your mind. They don't read half the books they keep talking about.
Planning on teaching this book to my year 11 Lit students next year. It's a film and literature course. We'll also be analyzing One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and a yet-to-be-determined work(s) by Edgar Allan Poe.
In addition to discussing the differences between the film and the novel, some themes I'd like to focus on are:
Masculinity
Absurdism/Nihilism
Violence
Success
Camaraderie (good parallel with Cuckoo's Nest?)
Obsession with Women/The Male Gaze (great for Poe discussions)
Any suggestions?
