Haruki Murakami, Realism vs. Surrealism.

I like all murakami but his character writing is what I appreciate more than anything else, and oftentimes the surrealist elements of the plot function as commentaries on the characters. I really liked 1Q84 for its leads, and A Windup Bird Chronicle for the side characters.

I read AWSC first and enjoyed it. Read NW and Kafka but wasn't so much in to those.

I think Murakami is a skilled writer but I do become disinterested in his stories due to his execution of the themes and common characteristics his characters share (jazz, cats, and loneliness).

I picked up Pinball and Hear the Wind Sing a couple months ago. I'm gonna try to finish those this winter break.
