All I see him talk about is pop-culture. I've only seen him talk a little about Dickens but that's it.

I've never read any of his books, but his talks on youtube are kind of fun.

I feel like he's generally too chaotic, though, in a way that it's hard to conclude if he even has an opinion on most subjects he discusses. He just goes off on tangential shit and never comes back.
Is his written work any better in that regard?

Yes, significantly better. It seems like there is always too much going on in his mind to sort it into a clear point when he is giving speeches (or making movies...). Books are a format that works much better for Zizek, if his goal is to express a coherent idea rather than be amusing and talk about pop culture.
Just read them they are great. And very importent.
