Can we have a Goodreads thread that don't get deleted by some mod for whatever reason?
Goodreads threads are part of /lit/ why was the last one deleted?

All you guys did was circlejerk and there's nothing to say in these threads except "look at how many books I've read"
Sebastian, I think it's because the mods are jealous of your voracious reading appetite and tell it like it is ratings.

No, we add people in those threads to gather a nice update feed on Goodreads
Maybe just sticky this Thread and delete all posts without a unique Goodreads account url. Every user can post his account and no spam.

>>7397711
3 stars are good books. the tooltip on goodreads for 3 stars says "I like it". I use goodreads so I rate like their tooltips indicate. 3 stars = I like it
>>7396846
The last one was deleted because we're worried about you, Sebastian. Between your hefty list of read books for the year and your continual creation of these threads we're concerned you're spending too much time living the life of the mind, and not enough time working at a job, or getting a qt gf, or learning about the ideal investment portfolio for someone your age.
>>7398254
Well, I am on Welfare at the moment, and I am happy. I don't want a gf and the money I get is enough to get by, I like to read all day and get drunk every 3 days or so. That's my life. I like my life.

>>7398483
That's the appeal of creating a /lit/-centric echo chamber of friends on the site. You'll get no arguments that the general demographic of goodreads is terrible, mostly middle aged women and girls in their 20s who still read YA.

>>7403173
how should I rate a book that I know is culturally important and influential but I found dull and unstimulating because it is so ubiquitous that it is already integrated into my worldview? do most people rate on merit or on whether they enjoyed themselves while reading?
>>7403378
you do you baby
>>7403378
I just rate everything whatever I feel like (usually five, 1 if shite), it doesn't matter--what matters is your individual reading, bollocks to the external view upon it
>>7403378
There are several books that I respect, whose technical achievements I recognize and acknowledge, but they don't have that spark that makes me love them. In those cases I give the book a lower rating because what I want is to enjoy books. (But the rating is never too low, since it still is an undeniably good book.)
>dull and unstimulating because it is so ubiquitous that it is already integrated into my worldview?
I actually don't think such books exist. Could you give me an example?
>>7403378
I rate based on if I'd recommend it, so in your case it might be a 3 which would be a light recommendation.
>>7403443
The example I had in mind was Walden by thoreau. By the time I had finally gotten around to reading it, I was already familiar with his ideas and criticisms of society because his influence had percolated its way through culture and art that I consumed. So when I read it, it seemed a bit trite and predictable, but I recognize that's only because it's had such a huge influence.
>>7403173

Something similar happened to me, I found a super autist who speaks ancient Greek and Egyptian and reads medieval troubadour poetry.
One day, I'll become a real patrician and add him.
>>7404091
Is he patrician though? Autism can be a great hinderence to Patriciandom; does he ever have Dionysian orgies and ironically have sex with older women?
>>7404112
Sebastian here, I have slight autism, but there is a video of me floating around where I fist a 50 year old women apart and I lick her anus while being drunk. Am I patrician?
>>7404112
Irony isn't patrician tho

I don't expect anything fruitful from this, but it's worth the ever so remote chance of finding someone as plebeianas me to discuss books with. Don't mind me, though. I'm really enjoying the sebastian-posting going on. Quality literary humour. And yes, the five star for the Pale King is sincere.
Hmm. I don't know why, but I seem to have a knack for killing threads. Good thing I didn't post before the shitposting then. Wouldn't have wanted to miss that.
Good night, /lit/.Love y'all.
