Hey /lit/,

Look what came in the mail today. Pretty neat!
>>
That's the little black classics collection? Nice.

How the hell do they keep them a uniform size anyway
>>
Why don't the penguins line up
Why
>>
>>7388800
Well while it's still difficult, one thing they did was for shorter things, include multiple stories. For example, Socrates' Defense is one piece, while the Poe actually includes Tell-Tale Heart, Fall of the House of Usher, and A Cask of Amontillado.

>>7388804
They do, they're just in there pretty snug and I haven't pressed them down nicely.
>>
>>7388815
Each is roughly 60 pages btw and they feel great.
>>
>>7388769
Can I get a shot of the inside of one so i can see the font and layout

80-90 queen money according to my search.
Which is like one minimum wage where I live, and I'd have to pay taxes and delivery.

Damn, always so hard.
>>
How much? It looks like a nice clean set, I dig the simplicity.
>>
>>7388974
Answered, nvm
>>
>>7388972
catalog says 70, 75 freedom bucks, so I'm sure you could track it down for just a little less

This looks like it'd be really nice for light reading. I've been hitting the heavier stuff lately and finding it harder to motivate myself to keep reading sometimes. It'd be nice to have something like this. By the time you finished all of them you could reread the first ones fresh again
>>
>>7388980
Exactly. I plan on reading one or two during transport and between novels.

>>7388965
And it cost me exactly 75 usd. Bought it off amazon and got free shipping.
>>
>>7388921
>>7388769
Its interesting that it covers a great deal of different authors from various countries and not just the same american authors that are talked about here on /lit/
>>
What is this shit? Are those abridged versions? This is neat but probably mediocre and badly translated, not mentioning many of the authors and works choosen are irrelevant as hell.
>>
>>7389043
>anonymous
>irrelevant
>>
The selected titles for the French and Russian authors are a fucking joke. They're the less interesting, well-written, representative ones I could think of, like the editor thought it would be great and look erudite to publish unknown stories.
>>
>>7389043
Yes, they abridged the Odyssey into 55 pages...

You fucking idiot, did you even read the titles? They're either short stories or pieces of larger works that make for short reading and give you a taste of the text as a whole. I haven't opened each once so I can't speak to the translations, but I'd imagine they are whatever penguin had previously. Why do you just automatically assume they're horrible? Just have a drink and relax, man.

And who is irrelevant?
>>
>>7389061
Penguin already had a 40, 50, and 60 year collection. They probably had to shift to some lesser known stuff. Or, they just wanted to piss off /lit/ who pretends to read the same stuff over and over.
>>
>>7389062
>Anton Chekhov
>dozens of high-end and recognized short stories and plays
>Penguin choice is “Gooseberries”
>Gustave Flaubert
>Penguin choice is the worst of his story
>Guy de Maupassant
>dozens of short stories
>Penguin choice is “Femme Fatale”
>Goethe
>Montaigne
>Gogol
>Tolstoy
>Aesop

No, fuck this shit. As >>7389067 it could be explained by having already published better-known work but with such a broad and general collection it doesn't make any sense. You're going to read average and irrelevant piece of literature. Regarding the translation, Penguin is renowned for having quite bad ones.

>>7389067
Kek, maybe. Anyway, it's too bad such a pretty collection is so poorly edited.
>>
*keks*
>>
>>7389101
do the stanky jej :o
>>
>>7389095

>>7388815
I see your point, but the ones titles after a story usually have 3 in them. Don't feel like getting up to check the Chekhov though.
>>
>>7388769
i feel bad for the postman.
>>
>>7389117
Ups handles much more difficult packages.
>>
>>7389114
The choice still makes few sense. Assuming the aim of the collection is to expose the reader to multiple authors from various country, this is clearly a poor direction.
>>
>>7388769
i want to order them, but my only option is bookdepository... i wonder if the postal service in my country will charge extra.
