I had thought the Story of the Eye was a thrilling read when I was 20 in university. I doubt it would have the same effect on me now. It actually depresses me that literature doesn't have that effect on me anymore. Literally just about everything bores the fuck out of me.

Okay /lit/, glad someone brought this guy up. Was he the one who has that bit on the "gift" where he talks at length about fluid exchange as two people giving 'gifts' to each other (saliva, semen, blood) or am I thinking De Sade?

This thread inspired me to get off my fucking ass and get rolling again on this Bataille project I'm doing, and I've been blazing on it all morning as a result.
