Thoughts on Bataille?

La part maudite is insightful. The story about the eye is dumb. Haven't read the rest.

He started out as a Catholic believer. Then he abandoned the faith and dissolved into degeneracy. He lost the battle.

He will always be remembered.
There will be one archived post on 4chan after you. Your heritage.

I had thought the Story of the Eye was a thrilling read when I was 20 in university. I doubt it would have the same effect on me now. It actually depresses me that literature doesn't have that effect on me anymore. Literally just about everything bores the fuck out of me.

Verdict: his death was a good thing

Inner Experience is one of the most thought provoking works of philosophy ever made. His oeuvre is outstanding but his lack of systematicity will forever prevent him from attaining a spot among the greats. Love him to death and he can remain my lil secret.

Okay /lit/, glad someone brought this guy up. Was he the one who has that bit on the "gift" where he talks at length about fluid exchange as two people giving 'gifts' to each other (saliva, semen, blood) or am I thinking De Sade?
This thread inspired me to get off my fucking ass and get rolling again on this Bataille project I'm doing, and I've been blazing on it all morning as a result.
