Are there any Australian literature publications that aren't jjust prolefeed for the tertiary educated? Is there anything devoted to writing as an art form and not as a pop cultural, personal or political accessory? Depressing wasteland tumbleweed shit

My boy Murnane used to work as fiction editor for Meanjin, so it's probably alright.

I'm happy Quadrant exists, but its aim has always been explicitly political and cultural. I'm not very partial to that tone of conservative incredulity and constant whiney acidity. It's edited by Keith Windschuttle after all.
I have to admit I have no idea what the fiction it publishes is like though, I've never looked.

oops I meant lit magazines, not books anon.

Only one that seems respectable so far. There's also the Australian Book Review, but I'm not very familiar with it.

No. Meanjin's online blog and nonfiction section are bad, but at least their editorial staff seem more concerned about literature.
