It's pretty much THE most valid reason.

They hated it because of dyphoria. Not because they were bad at pretending to be manly. There's a reason why it's common for repressors to join the army and look like they get plenty of bitches on their dick. They tried to become succesful men and succeded, hoping it would put an end in their dysphoria and make them finaly like themselves and what they have. But even though they would put other men to shame by their achievements. They still hated themselves and their body, and their gender role.

At the end they decided they couldn't take it anymore and transitioned to the opposite sex.

And now even though they have less than when they were men. They are happy.
