That's not why you dilate (other than the first couple of months where everything is healing). What you do when you are dilating is basically slowly stretching the tissue to make sure you have a certain depth and acclimating the muscles inside so you don't have an overly tight vagina, which is necessary because of the difficulty in constructing certain attaching ligaments to the pelvic muscles. Some cis women have the same problems with their muscles, and likewise might be prescribed dilation. The depth problem is related to the paucity of tissue available usually requiring it to be stretched, and slowly reshaped.

After initial healing is complete, its no more an open wound than any cis woman's vagina.

First off, a neovag will almost always be tighter than a cisvag, because it doesn't have the same sort of stretching abilities (it can stretch somewhat, but not to the same degree), so just using the right sized dilator will get you the kind of tightness you might want
