I'm not a speech pathologist or anything (but if I was a highly paid one and fairly frugal, my transbian gf dream could be realized in the form of sugar momma'ing transgirls' transitions until they leave me for an NBA player) but from my understanding there's two parts to your voice passing: pitch and pitch variance. I forget the actual term for that second concept, but basically it's talking less monotone, more sing-songy and whimsical, which is considered more feminine.
So, I mean, in terms realistic passing there's varying levels, including "as a trans woman," so any work you put in is worth it. That said, I sometimes wonder if hanging out with an older female relative that you respect is second-best or third-best to shelling out $$$ since that's how little girls learn to talk like women - by mimicking their mothers, aunts, day care ladies, etc.
