Some companies in China have managed to cultivate it. It's a type of algae that grows cysts in low light conditions that are filled with astaxanthin. If ideally grown the algae powder is about 1/4 astaxanthin due to how large the cysts can get. Without intervention the cysts pop when exposed to sunlight though.
About 20-30mg/day of astaxanthin is supposed to entirely prevent sunburns, albeit you don't tan either apparently. I take it but I don't go outside enough to actually test it lol
