Women do the same thing with their version of love.

My girlfriend is very capable of love -- she listens to me when I'm in a shitty mood, she tells me I'm handsome and worthwhile, she gives me physical affection, she makes me feel good. In return I help provide for her, I give her gifts, I try to support her emotionally and help her find ways out of problems. I give her advice and give her physical affection too.

This is a common assumption but it's wrong in this case at least. I got a fair amount of female attention over my lifetime. I tried for relationships a few times and eventually learned that women aren't for me. It wasn't bad break ups or anything. Women just don't have penises usually. And if they do they aren't functional. But later I transitioned to female and had something that I assumed was a childhood bias confirmed to me. Women are not as interested in men as men are in women. This is something that I understood from the time I was 5 years old but had never really taken seriously until recently. I feel like estrogen makes me react to certain things much more but on the whole I don't experience attraction as acutely as before. This along with observing behavioral differences in women and men in romantic situations has led me to believe that women are not as attracted to men as men are to them. And I sort of just want to know why. Or if most people are even aware of that.

It's because women get pregnant and have babies. The whole process is long and difficult, so they need to be extremely picky and selective about their mates, maximising quality genes.

Guys are selective too, but to a lesser extent, and tend to want sex for the sake of pleasure. I think rates of childless middle age men is significantly higher than childless middle age women in the west.

This is broadly speaking though, imo when a girl finds a mate, they fall deeply in love because they need him to stick around and help protect her and the babies.
