I kind of have mixed feelings about that whole thing in the movie. On one hand it's a type of warfare, there's tactics, espinage, traps, it's all very cool. I'd argue 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' is a gay cult movie because it's an actual cult movie, Rocky was created as a sex toy, Brad had sex with Dr. Frank (he still has a penis/he's an alien and the word 'transvestite' can be just the name of his race), and they all had an implied orgy in the end, which includes Brad and Rocky.

I don't think it's as simple as effiminate gays like female characters masculine gays like male characters. I think all gay men are more active with their feminine thinking, having a female symbol kind of is a stabilizing force. The point is to that certain things resonate with guys extra strong. That's all. Straight people Mean Girls too, just that gays resonate with it more.
