I know this is a topic that is spoken on as some mind experiment but it already exists.
Ambiguously gendered people already exist in society and the social interactions of them by coded men and women have been a reality for sometime.
Regardless of the androgynous/epicene person's actual identity, those who are seen as "unsure" genderwise are seen and perceived in ways outside of binary gender social norms.
Anyone want to talk about being seen as in between, neither or unknown? Even after your gender is known how does your treatment still vary from the norm?
I hate to be a cunt, but in my opinion there are actually only two genders. Sure you can be androgynous and what not but you are still either a male or female.

I really really hate it
about 1 year on hormones with long hair and I feel like I can't have a normal interaction with strangers
in general women seem to see me as male, but guys will just stare at me and I have no idea how to interpret it
at one point I thought I'd enjoy androgyny but I'm having a hard time dealing with other's reactions and I feel very insecure

Socially not fitting into either role puts into question the idea that there are only two and you will fit in either two.
Clearly the grey zones people face is something arising from not being properly placed in a binary society and is as a result the third path.
It's only going to be more normalized as more and more crop up.

Which gender are trans?
At first I wanted to be referred to as a girl, but once I started taking hormones, I became unsure of what to refer to myself as. And now that I look like a weird andro girlyboy I don't really care for any pronouns.

Same. Call me he/she/it, I don't care anymore which is funny because I really cared about that at first.

You are still male or female. OP is just saying androgynous people are generally treated in a different way than most men or women, not necessarily that they are a third gender.

No. You're just neurotic for not fitting into some people's toxic ideas of what you should look like. Stop letting the worst people live inside your head. You are a man/woman no matter what you look like.

did you even read past the first sentence of the OP
