So the white gay community has dramatically lowered its STD rates in the last few years. STD rates were already on the downward tend for white gays but now that PrEP is more available HIV transition rates are dropping. Many who were against PrEP when it first came out were saying that gay men will be barebacking more and spreading other STDs other than HIV. While barebacking has become more common, STD transmission rates are actually decreasing because white gays are getting tested more often (most PrEP programs have you tested every few months for all STDs) So in the white gay community things are looking good. Also communities within the white gay community, specifically the bears, have seen the most decrease in STDs while also being more likely to engage in bareback sex, mostly because bears are more likely to get tested than any other group.

What we need to work on is the black gay community. While gay white men have an HIV rate of 1 in 11, gay blacks have about a 1 in 2 HIV rate. This is compounded by the fact that only 1 in 7 gay white men are unclear about their status while most gay black men do not know their status and have not been tested. As a result we see most gay white men white HIV on their medication where they are not able to transmit the disease, but most gay black men white HIV can and do transmit. The worst part is, most government health care programs, which most blacks qualify for, are now offering PrEP and regular STD checks. I live in Los Angeles and I go into the black part of town to watch cheap movies and the place is littered with billboards and bus benches about getting tested for STDs but the blacks are not doing it.
